Steven Turner, Organist

Place of Birth:Thomasville, Ga but grew up in Pelham

Married to Angie Avard

Children: Savannah (13) Meredith Camille (8) and Simeon (3)

Education: Music has always been a passion of Steven’s as he began to play the piano (by ear) when he was 4 years old. Though he took lessons and played for church when growing up, he went to college for a degree in Furniture Marketing and Interior Design in High Point, NC and another degree in Furniture Design in Grand Rapids, MI. He worked for a few years in the furniture industry before returning to Georgia to join his family’s furniture retail business. Even though Steven’s degrees are not in music he continued to take piano and organ lessons while in college. He excelled in both piano and organ with Mary Alicia Cox in Greensboro, NC and Jonathon Tuuk in Grand Rapids and would play for various churches when he lived away from South Georgia.

Background: In 2000 Steven and his high school sweet heart, Angie Avard, married and moved back to Georgia to settle in Pelham. At that time they started their own business and he was the organist at Hand Memorial United Methodist Church in Pelham where he was also the mayor. In 2013 he began serving as the organist at First United Methodist Church in Thomasville.

Hobbies: He enjoys playing with his three children, working in the yard, drawing, designing and spending time with people.

Favorite dessert: Any kind of pie!
